Susanna's Feast
Susanna's Feast
Susanna's Feast, a mixed media painting on canvas
From the Upside Down Collection
Based on Luke 8:1-3
I’m being sneaky tossing in a Luke passage! But I really wanted to paint Susanna’s shout out. Women in Jesus’s time did not have power or status. And that didn’t matter to Jesus. A true picture of the Upside Down Kingdom.
“Soon afterward he went on through cities and villages, proclaiming and bringing the good news of the kingdom of God. And the twelve were with him, and also some women who had been healed of evil spirits and infirmities: Mary, called Magdalene, from whom seven demons had gone out, and Joanna, the wife of Chuza, Herod’s household manager, and Susanna, and many others, who provided for them out of their means.”
Art Size: 24 × 24 with an 1 1/2 profile
Acrylic, Gouache, Varnish
Comes Ready to Hang
Jesus in all His goodness is not what we sinners expect. Jesus teaches that the weak are strong, the poor are kings, and the blind see. Jesus brings an Upside Down Kingdom where the dependant are the powerful. Jesus’s Kingdom is opposite of what the world seeks to teach us, and we can rejoice in that.
The only qualification to enter this kingdom is a heart of need, knowing only Jesus gives what will fulfill and fulfill He will. “They shall call his name Immanuel which means God with us,” says Matthew 1:23. As we endlessly feel, see and know our need, Jesus is with us.
May these paintings remind us that Jesus invites us into His Upside Down Kingdom.
